The three laws of knowledge that constitute the maxima of Oomoto:

  • Observing the true form of the beings, we feel the existence of God.
  • Observing life in all beings, we feel the presence of the power of God.
  • Feeling the interior of the beings, we see into them the spirit of God.

The teachings of Oomoto are not those of a single sect. We don't believe, as do many established religions, that in the words of our founder we have the one and only religious truth. At Oomoto, we don't bind up and destroy people's living souls by encircling them with the steel nets and bars of doctrine and scriptures and rituals and catechisms. As a result, Christians, Buddhists and believers of other faiths from all over the world come to Oomoto, and we all work together to cultivate our spirituality and to discover religious principles in harmony with our times.

The True Mission of Religion

God, as a means of guiding his beloved children along the Way, set out lanterns over the surface of the earth - blue, white, yellow, purple, large and small - lanterns of many kinds. They are to lead us to the Kingdom of God, so that we will not stumble or lose our direction. God loves light; the Devil loves darkness. It is impossible for one's own lantern to light up the whole world, and hence to think to put out the other lanterns is to bring darkness upon the world. It is the spirit of the Devil; it is an act in violation of the will of God.

Hidemaru Deguchi, 1926
